The Golden Voices is a gospel A Cappella singing group that was founded by Minister Robert Kevin Taylor under the leading of the Holy Spirit in May 1997. Not knowing at that time the specifics of their future as to where they were being led. Through obedience and walking in faith they have had may joyous experiences to include the making of their 1st CD in 2001. Currently they are in the process of recording their 2nd CD.
There have been numerous discussions amongst the group in regards to where they are going, how far should they go and what goals should be set and met. These discussions were in light of family, work, personal issues, finances, having an agent, and legal ramifications. These things, if you?re not careful, the devil could use to place doubt, discouragement and trepidation in your mind to prevent you from going forward with the Lord?s work and music ministry. However the overriding attitude has been ?whatever doors God opens for us we?ll go through?.
The group is a mixture of various musical backgrounds to include traditional gospel style singing and choral/chorus style singing by different members. These styles have been blended into a mixture of voices that is unique.
Samuel A. Jones Sr. has been singing the longest. He is a member of St. Mark A.M.E. Church in Lindenwold, New Jersey. Rev. Betty A. Clarke, is his Pastor. He began his music career at a very young age singing in his family group with his mother and three sisters called the Jones Quarter. This went on for many years and when he raised his own family the tradition continued with he and his children for 17 more years. He renamed the group the Jones Quartet Harmonaires. During his music career ?Pop? Jones sang with the Crowns of Israel, The Wandering Travelers, and various church choirs. He was and is connected to the Dixie Humming Birds. He was choir director and now sings with the Golden Voices. He occasionally sings lead and baritone, but prefers 2nd tenor. Consequently one of his son?s, the eldest, Minister Samuel A. Jones Jr., also a member of St. Mark A.M.E. Church, continued singing as a youngster in church on youth and adult choirs. Sam Jr. sang his first solo at about age 11, when asked by the Preacher?s wife, Sister Wright, to sing during a Sunday morning service, the song was ?Yield Not To Temptation?. Sam Jr. sings lead vocals, 1st and 2nd tenor and occasional baritone. Sam?s love for singing came by the inspiration of the Lord through family singing and in church. As far as instruments he plays the bass guitar and tambourine. Ralph Robinson is a member of Grant A.M.E. Church, Chesilhurst, New Jersey. Rev. Lynda T. Rassman is his Pastor. He began singing ?street corner? and later used his talent for the Lord. He sang with The Gospel Knights and The Golden Tones. Currently he is an active choir member for his church?s Combined Choir. He has played trumpet and now sings lead vocals, a keen 1st tenor and baritone. Charles Amos is also a member of Grant A.M.E. Church. He too has been singing for some time mostly in Choir and Choral settings. He plays piano and organ using his talents for the Lord. He has been choir director and sings 2nd tenor and baritone. Preston Forchion is the group?s newest member (five years) and is the bass singer. Preston is a member of Green Grove Baptist Church in Berlin, NJ. Rev. George E. Holland is his Pastor. Preston uses his talent to sing with The Stockton Oratorial Society. He has sung with various church choirs.
Although two of the groups original members, Minister Robert Kevin Taylor and Rev. Wayne Chinn (both on original CD ?Golden Voices Steppin? on Board) are in full time ministries, they still support the group wholeheartedly. Mark Wanzer who sang with the group for about 2 years is now pursuing a solo song ministry for the Lord. This group of men make a public confession of salvation, they are close knit, love to sing, are single minded, are dedicated, have perseverance, family oriented, are led by the Holy Spirit, fun loving and welcome opportunities to share the gospel in song. They have been told that they sound like the Soul Stirrers, The Dixie Hummingbirds, The Persuasions, The Temptations and other famous groups. They are blessed and grateful to God for bringing them this far by faith. Many thanks to each family, church family, friends, supporters and first and foremost Jesus Christ.
